Short films are contemporary shots, flashes on themes and feelings. The musical with the Brazilian riders, winner at Locarno, Neon Phantom by Leonardo Martinelli, the screenwriters of dreams, Léo Berne and Raphaël Rodriguez, with The Censor of Dreams, the teenage “smoked” puppets of A Puff Before Dying by Mike Pinkney, Michael Reich. These are just some of the short films, all Italian premières, participating in the International Film Competition.
Saturday 9th October 2021 h 15:00, Arcobaleno Film Center (Sala 2)
Domenica 10 ottobre 2021 h 17:20, Arcobaleno Film Center (Sala 1)
A group of short films almost all Italian, but there is a reason for that “almost”. The title is Brutalia, Days of Labour by the Greek Manolis Mavris, an Italian première, winner of the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes. And then new viewpoints to be discovered, like the two short films coming from the Venice Critics’ Week, L’incanto by Chiara Caterina and L’ultimo spegne la luce by Tommaso Santambrogio, and two different ways of observing, some the body like Beniamino Barrese in Oltre Gretel, others those clichés like in Noi cinesi in realtà siamo tutti dei cloni by Alessio Hong.

A whole group of recent international short films, some of them here for their Italian première and all of them for the first time in the city, to explore the techniques and imagery of animation cinema. From Anxious Body by Yoriko Mizushiri from the Cannes Film Festival to the Irish school of Bardo by Aisling Conroy, the apocalypse we have just gone through with the pandemic is mirrored in moving colours. For those who loved the Animation Marathon, the Festival’s historic event, this is a journey that will not disappoint viewers.
