The First Wave

The choral work born from the Instant Corona call, launched by MIR Cinematografica, AIR3 Associazione Italiana Registi and Milano Film Festival in collaboration with Proxima Milano, Operà Music and NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in the period immediately preceding the first lockdown materialised in December 2020.
Filming began on 23rd February 2020 and the images were captured up to 10th May 2020, with the first week of the easing of the lockdown measures (the so-called Phase 2), in which production activities gradually restarted and the city streets began to repopulate with life and hesitant sociability.
For 71 minutes, a multi-voice narrative unfolds, providing a mosaic of gazes, a multiple and multifaceted vision of Milan at the time of the first wave of the Coronavirus. The 57 directors and filmmakers taking part in the creation of the feature film convey their different points of view merging into a single story. They do not just merely observe the emergency, but go beyond the surface of things, offering personal interpretations of this new reality we are called upon to face, giving a new meaning to the events as they unfold.
An episode of historical and world-wide importance, experienced in isolation, becomes again a collective experience thanks to the cinema that, while including tragic moments, returns a representation that overcomes the sense of solitude.
